Hege Iren Aasdal

Hege Iren Aasdal is a well-known Norwegian basket-maker specialising in exploring traditions from rural areas and materials from the wild to make beautiful, useful and durable baskets.

A former fellow of the Norwegian Crafts Institute, Hege’s work seeks to preserve and promote traditional crafts as knowledge, culture and as a profession.

Her main focus is on baskets made of split material in the Norwegian tradition that is harvested locally. A skill that is rapidly disappearing.

Over a series of workshops, we will gather natural materials from the wild and split them to make them pliable to weave into baskets. Exploring both soft materials like grasses and rushes and hard materials like branches to split, twist, loop and weave.

Taking home a little piece of the natural world in the form of an ancient, practical and beautiful tradition.
